Rega new reference MM cartridge – Nd7

Rega’s new Nd moving magnet cartridge line up is now complete with the arrival of the flagship model – Nd7.
The innovative new Nd range of handmade moving magnets is already attracting much acclaim; first opinions and reviews of Nd3 and Nd5 are very good indeed, so we’re expecting big things from Nd7, hailed as the best moving magnet Rega has ever produced.
The aluminium cantilever in Nd7 is fitted with a precision ‘Fine Line nude diamond’ stylus. This complex profile provides unrivalled tracking accuracy and extracts the maximum level of detail from the vinyl surface. This ‘Fine Line’ profile – usually reserved for Rega’s high-end Apheta3 and Aphelion 2 MC designs – has an exceptionally small radii, Monocrystalline manmade diamond, just 3 microns (top view) and 30 microns in the vertical (front view). This tiny diamond contact area allows immediate adjustment to tiny fluctuations in the vinyl groove, and so retrieving exceptional levels of detail.
Like Nd3 and Nd5, the Nd7 cartridge employs an ultra-high powered Neodymium N55 magnet in a moving magnet configuration which facilitates this unique design, developed by Rega Research over 10 years. And Nd looks like it will deliver the ‘next level’ performance of Rega MM cartridges for the next 10.
Other key Nd7 features:
- Optimised pole gap for superior linearity and cross talk characteristics, providing a far wider soundstage than previous models
- Created with miniaturised parallel coils, wound in house, using 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns, producing a low inductance, low impedance generator with vastly improved high frequency response
- Brand new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve highly accurate channel balance
- Highly rigid lightweight PPS body – the complete assembly is housed in a zero tolerance, injection moulded glass filled polyphenylene sulphide body. This lightweight body reduces stress on the tonearm bearings and aids free movement, critical in accurate vinyl replay
- Rega 3 point mounting system
Priced at £450 and designed to partner Planar 6 and Planar 8 turntables, it is also available as a factory-fitted option on both models, with discounted package prices of £1575 and 2230 respectively.
